Product Design Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary

This position will involve product development and enhancements, associated engineering documentation, associated equipment testing and project management.

Roles and Responsibilities

Product Development:
Develop new products for the sanitary and industrial markets. This will involve working as the primary contributor to the project. Candidate may work individually or as a team member on a large group project from time to time.

  • Contribute to finalizing the specification of new project based on market specifications and interaction with production and other engineering personnel
  • Work with the Sales team to develop product specifications to satisfy market requirements
  • Occasional travel with the Sales team to understand market and customer requirements
  • Estimation of time and materials needed for proposed project
  • Setup and maintain project timeline with key milestone target dates and periodic project updates to key stakeholders
  • Structural and design integrity analysis by utilization of mathematical computations, as well as other available engineering analytical tools
  • Organized documentation of project development notes and computaitons
  • Material, component and vendor sourcing and investigating
  • Component detailing
  • Prototype testing and debugging

Drafting and Technical Illustrations:

  • Accurately produce drawing detailing of items associated with the project with necessary tolerances, manufacturability, and completeness
  • Generate accurate illustration showing assembled, sub-assemblies and exploded views for product documentation and standardization, assembly department, as well as manuals & concept development visual aids
  • Use of CAD software and possible other graphic software to achieve the appropriate illustration

Product Manuals & Prepare for Release to Production:

  • Work with IOM personnel to contribute to development of customer installation, operation and maintenance manuals
  • Provide Bill of Materials (BOM) with complete list of parts needed to complete an order (including standard options)
  • Provide all necessary drawing details that may be required to complete an order

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in ANSI Geometric Tolerancing and applied dimensioning
  • AutoDesk Inventor or other 3D solid modeling/CAD software (will train)
  • Anvil1000MD 2D Cad (will train)
  • Ability to calculate loads such as torque, bending moment, torsional stress, etc. on basic structural assemblies
  • Solid communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong time management skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Credentials and Experience

  • B.S. of Mechanical Engineering (minimum)
  • Minimum 10 years ME job experience
  • Experience leading projects supervising other (preferred)
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment a plus
  • Experience with mechanical processing equipment a plus
  • Project management experience
